URBAN CO-WORKS Creates First Non-Profit Center in Upstate New York
Updated: Mar 10, 2018
January 30, 2017 (Schenectady, NY) URBAN CO-WORKS announced today the formation of The Non-Profit Center at URBAN CO-WORKS. The Non-Profit Center offers enhanced co-working services that support small not-for-profit organizations in the region.
“Co-working spaces in general are a great option for non-profits because they get access to all the office amenities we offer at URBAN CO-WORKS for one low price. In addition to the basic co-working package, the Non-Profit Center has partnered with a variety of business solutions providers who can assist non-profits with back-office support and training. We have also partnered with a number of representatives from local foundations who can provide funding and other forms of support,” said Jeff Goronkin, CEO at URBAN CO-WORKS.
Members from three area foundations have committed to providing support to The Non-Profit Center at URBAN CO-WORKS. The Little Family Foundation, The Schenectady Foundation and the Wright Family Foundation will provide mentorship, connections, and training. “In particular, we’re excited about the connections The Non-Profit Center can help facilitate. These meaningful relationships will help support the mission of our foundation,” said Mark Little, co-founder of the Little Family Foundation.
The Little Family Foundation has been a member at URBAN CO-WORKS since 2016 and will be founding members of The Non-Profit Center along with The Autism Society of the Greater Capital Region and Z2 Systems.
“The Autism Society is thrilled to make the move to the Non-Profit Center at URBAN CO-WORKS,” said CEO Janine Kruiswijk. “Cost savings is just one of the reasons we are joining. One of the struggles we have is connecting our constituents to the business community. Our new location lands us right in the center of it and we are looking forward to collaborating with other co-working members when the opportunities come up. We are thrilled that that the local foundations will be making themselves available as well.”
Z2 Systems is the creator of NeonCRM, an online software solutions platform used by non-profit organizations across the country. “As a partner of The Non-Profit Center at URBAN CO-WORKS, we will be offering many of our solutions at steeply discounted rates to members and we will be facilitating training throughout the year on a variety of relevant topics. We’re very happy about joining the community.” said Tim Sarrantonio, director of business development.
Another partner, Harbor Compliance, has helped thousands of nonprofits gain tax exempt status, manage state and federal filings, and achieve worry-free fundraising compliance nationwide.
"This is an exciting opportunity to partner with The Non-Profit Center at URBAN CO-WORKS in supporting the invaluable contributions nonprofit organizations make to our communities," said Ify Aduba, nonprofit partnership manager. "We look forward to making compliance easy so that organizations can focus their precious time and resources on accomplishing their mission and maximizing their impact."
A number of other back-office solutions companies including GivBee and Quickbooks Made Easy, will be providing members significant discounts on their services to members of The Non-Profit Center.
“The Non-Profit Center at URBAN CO-WORKS is another great example of how the Schenectady community embraces a creative and collaborative environment, over a competitive one. This will be an excellent space for nonprofits to share ideas and services, while receiving a network of professional and financial support from local businesses and community-focused organizations,” said Schenectady Mayor Gary McCarthy.
"The Capital Region Chamber is excited about the launch of the Nonprofit Center at URBAN CO-WORKS. Our nonprofit sector is vital to a strong Capital Region. This center will provide much needed business services and resources to support to a variety of local non-profits to enhance their capacity to deliver on their mission(s)," said Mark Eagan, CEO of the Capital Region Chamber.
“Our goal is to help our members focus on their mission. We will continue to secure quality partners who can provide valuable services and offer programing to help educate non-profits about a variety of business-based topics such as marketing, compliance, board development and more,” said Goronkin. “What I am truly excited about are the collaborations that are bound to emerge from this cluster of organizations that support charitable initiatives in our region.
